First, be root
sudo -i
Copy the example
cp /usr/share/doc/gdm/examples/custom.conf /etc/gdm/
Edit it with your favourite editor
vim /etc/gdm/custom.conf
Add lines like these under [daemon]
[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=username
